Details of Disappearance

Palmer was last seen on July 25, 1972, when her family dropped her off at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport in Roanoke, Virginia. She had been traveling after high school and came home for a visit, and was leaving again.

Before she left, she took her vehicle to an aunt's house and asked her to keep it there and not tell anyone else in the family, and she removed the tags. Her family never saw her again.

The last letter Palmer's family received from her was sent on April 20, 1974. It was postmarked Yonkers, New York, but she may have been in South Africa at the time. She spoke a lot about South Africa and their apartheid system.

Prior to her disappearance, Palmer had been to Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and California, and she lived in Mexico in 1971. She was involved in a religious youth movement and the leaders reportedly told her to sever her ties with her family, which makes her family suspect she may have joined a cult. The circumstances of her disappearance are unclear.
