    Details of Disappearance

Laiaddee was reported missing by her father in California on May 28, 2010. He filed the report after Laiaddee's boyfriend of three years called him to say she'd been missing from their home in the 300 block of north Eucalyptus Street in Chandler, Arizona since March 18. He said they'd broken up after an argument the day before and Laiaddee told him she was going to move to Denver, Colorado to get a new job. She has never been heard from again. She left behind her purse, one of her cellular phones, her keys, her passport and both of her vehicles, a gold Ford Escape and a new silver Honda. Some jewelry and other valuable items her parents had given when her parents went to check her house in early June 2010. Her father stated the residence was uncharacteristically messy. After her disappearance, Laiaddee's boyfriend moved out of their home and into an apartment in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Subsequent investigation showed that Laiaddee's boyfriend had been using an assumed identity. He had called himself Bryan Stewart for the past eight years; his real name is Rick Wayne Valentini. He had applied for jobs and registered to vote using his alias name and another person's Social Security number. He claims he changed his identity to escape an abusive childhood and had no criminal intent. Laiaddee had supported him financially and bought him a car, even though he didn't have a driver's license. When he was arrested for burglary she hired an attorney for him, and the charge was reduced to trespassing. Laiaddee hired a private detective to investigate her boyfriend after the burglary arrest, but the detective found nothing suspicious in his background and she chose to keep seeing him.

Valentini was using Laiaddee's credit cards and her gold 2007 Ford Escape for weeks after her disappearance, and he also began seeing other women. In the late spring and summer of 2010, Valentini as indictd on numerous charges including credit card fraud, theft of credit cards, identity theft, forgery, fraud, weapons violations and probation violation. He had a felony trespassing conviction from 2007 and was prohibited from owning guns, but authorities found a handgun, and ammunition in his apartment. They stated they considered him a person of interest in Laiaddee's disappearance. A photo of him is posted below this case summary.

In April 2011, Valentini was charged with second-degree murder in Laiaddee's case. Authorities stated a "totality of circumstances" proved Laiaddee was dead and Valentini was responsible for her death. He allegedly told two cellmates that he'd shot Laiaddee with a sawed-off shotgun, dismembered her body and and disposed of it in such a way that it would be impossible to find.

Laiaddee had reportedly been distancing herself from her friends in the year before her disappearance, but her family and friends stated there was no indication that Valentini was abusive towards her. Investigators could find no evidence that she had gotten a new job or planned to move, as Valentini claimed. She had numerous friends from college, but none of them lived nearby; they were scattered all over the world and kept in touch by phone and email. Valentini said she became depressed after she lost her job in 2009.

At his trial in November 2011, Valentini admitted to lying about many aspects of his life, but maintained he was innocent of murder. He stated Laiaddee is still alive and even went to his home, took the money he left out for her, and moved his things around when he was absent. He was convicted of second-degree murder; the jury deliberated only four hours.

Laiaddee graduated from the University of Michigan in 1999. She worked as a medical sales assistant at the time of her disappearance. Foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
