    Details of Disappearance

Sneha was last seen in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania on February 14, 1998. She was abducted by her non-custodial mother, Harsha Pierce. Photographs and information about Harsha are unavailable. She took Sneha to Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. Harsha is a citizen of Mauritius.

Sneha's father, Justin Pierce, has tried to have the child returned to the United States. He applied for her return under the terms of the Hague Treaty on the Civil Aspects of Child Abduction, but Mauritius has not signed the treaty and is not bound by it. Authorities in Mauritius have ruled that Sneha should stay with her mother. Harsha accuses Justin of violent behavior; he denies this. United States officials have granted custody of Sneha to Justin, but they cannot enforce the order while the child remains in Mauritius. As a result, she continues to be listed as a missing person.
