Details of Disappearance Jabez was last seen in the 1500 block of 23rd Street near his home in Sarasota, Florida on September 4, 2017. He has never been heard from again. On August 28, a week prior to his disappearance, he may have witnessed the robbery and murder of 31-year-old Travis Combs, who was found shot to death in a field less than 500 feet from the front door of the home Jabez shared with his grandmother.
A man named Reginald Lee Parker allegedly told Jabez's grandmother and aunt, as well as one other witness, that he had seen the murder and that Jabez had present at the scene. He allegedly told them Jabez and two other people came out of a residence, then Parker heard a gunshot and heard Jabez exclaim, "Oh my God. Y'all shot him."
Parker was arrested on unrelated charges of failure to register as a sex offender on November 7, 2017. When interviewed, denied having seen any murder or having told anyone that he had. Combs's aunt visited him in jail and stated she believes Parker knows something about Combs's murder, but won't tell police because he's afraid of being harmed.
Parker was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, as police said he had impeded their investigation, but this charge was later dropped. He pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to five years in prison.
Jabez was raised by his grandmother starting when he was two months old. He had a loving relationship with her and the rest of his family. It's unclear whether his disappearance is related to Combs's murder, and authorities stated there was no evidence of foul play in his case, but his mother believes he was abducted and may have been killed. His case remains unsolved.
