Details of Disappearance

Miller was last seen in San Bernardino County, California at 9:00 a.m. July 13, 2018. He was visiting the country with his wife of 26 years; they lived in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and were on a vacation to celebrate their anniversary.

It was the last day of the couple's trip, and Miller told his wife he wanted to make one last trip to Joshua Tree National Park before returning home. He said he planned to hike the Fortynine Palms Oasis trail and would be back at their hotel by checkout time at 11:00 a.m. He never arrived back at the hotel and has never been heard from again. His rental car was later found at the Fortynine Palms trailhead.

An extensive search of Joshua Tree National Park turned up no indication of Miller's whereabouts. He is an experienced hiker and avid outdoorsman, and had visited the park before, but this was his first time at that particular trail. It is about a three-mile hike with a 300-foot elevation gain, and normally takes two or three hours to complete.

Miller left his cellular phone behind at the hotel, which he usually does when he goes hiking. His disappearance remains unsolved.
