Details of Disappearance Heitzig was last seen on September 1, 2018. She disappeared at 8:00 p.m., after a head-on boating collision in the Colorado River near the the town of Topock, Arizona and the Arizona/California border.
A total of sixteen people were involved in the crash, and all were ejected on impact and thrown into the water. None of them were wearing life jackets. Twelve were rescued, two of whom were critically injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital. Heitzig, Kirra Drury, 23, Brian Grabowski, 49, and Christine Lewis, 51, could not be located after the accident, and their bodies were found days later.
An investigation revealed both boats were being driven at unsafe speeds, in a narrow stretch of the river when lighting and visibility was poor. The operators of both boats had alcohol in their systems, but the level of impairment could not be measured. No charges were filed in the collision.
Heitzig's body has never been found, but she is presumed drowned. She lived in Ventura, California at the time of her disappearance, studied psychology at California State University, Channel Islands, and worked at the Social Tap, a bar and restaurant. She dreamed of becoming a teacher.
