Oakley disappeared from Carmel, New York on March 28, 2001. In July 2004, his remains were found in a well pump house on a farm a mile and a half from his home. Oakley, who was depressed over several family deaths and the loss of his job, had killed himself with a handgun which was recovered at the scene.
