Details of Disappearance

Brand was reported missing from Howard City, Michigan by his son in July 1995. He was last seen in November 1994, by a friend who helped him close up Brand's trailer in the Upper Peninsula region of the state; Brand used it as a fishing cottage. He left his boats, car and other belongings behind and has never been heard from again.

At the time of his disappearance, Brand's only income was his Social Security checks. The payments were stopped after he went missing and he never contacted Social Security about it. He has not had any law enforcement contacts and has not been seen by rangers at Isle Royale National Park, where he enjoyed fishing.

His family said he was in good health at the time of his disappearance, wasn't suicidal and wasn't the kind of person who would have walked out of his life. Authorities believe foul play was involved in Brand's case and are investigating it at as a possible homicide.
