Details of Disappearance

Aranda was last seen in Moreno Valley, California on January 13, 2019. She was in the company of a friend, eighteen-year-old Owen Skyler Shover, who had previously attended Moreno Valley High School with her. Aranda was a junior at the time. Owen had texted her the previous day, inviting her to join him and look for drug dealers to rob.

They got together shortly after 5:00 p.m.; two of her friends saw her get into Owen's Nissan Versa. They headed north towards Box Springs Mountain and Aranda posted several photos of her and Owen to social media, saying she was happy to be with her "homie" and that he was letting her do some of the driving.

Owen stated he dropped Aranda off at Moreno Valley Community Park at Frederick and Cottonwood between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. and saw her get into a gray four-door sedan. She has never been heard from again. Surveillance cameras at the park didn't show Aranda visiting it around the time Owen says they did.

In February, less than a month after Aranda disappeared, Owen and his brother, 21-year-old Gary Anthony Shover, were arrested and charged with murder (in the case of Owen) and conspiracy to commit murder (in the case of Gary). Photos of the Shover brothers are posted with this case summary. They lived together in Hesperia, California at the time of their arrests.

In November 2017, over a year before her disappearance, Aranda skipped school and went to Moreno Valley Community Park with friends, including Owen. They were seen by a school resource officer looking for truants. Owen, who was carrying a handgun, gave it to Aranda and told her to hide it. She threw it into a drainage canal, but the school resource officer saw her do it and detained her. Under questioning, she admitted the gun belonged to Owen.

Both Aranda and Owen were expelled from Moreno Valley High School in February 2018 as a result of this incident, something which Owen was reportedly very angry about. Authorities believe this was what led to Aranda's disappearance and murder. A search of Owen's Nissan turned up a significant amount of blood pooled in the trunk, under the carpeting; the blood turned out to be Aranda's.

In March 2025, Gary pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to Aranda's murder. He admitted he and his brother had buried her body in the San Bernardino Mountains after Owen had killed her. He was sentenced to twelve months' probation. In October, Owen was convicted of Aranda's murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Aranda has never been located. Her grandfather was her legal guardian at the time of her disappearance and she'd lived with him at his home on Via Vargas Drive since the age of three, but her father and other relatives were part of her life. She had a job at the Moreno Valley Mall and was about to be promoted to a leadership position.

Foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
