Details of Disappearance
Behmlander was last seen at her home in Battle Creek, Michigan on October 1, 1997. She lived alone and wasn't working at the time of her disappearance.
She was divorced, but kept in touch with her ex-husband once a week by phone. The last time they spoke, Behmlander mentioned needing some repair work done on her home. Her ex-husband mailed her a check for $400 to pay for the repairs. When he was unable to reach her, he went to her house to check on her.
It appeared as if Behmlander had left home in a hurry. The windows were open, the check her ex-husband had sent her was sitting next to the sink, there was spoiled food in a pot on the stove and in the refrigerator, and a diamond ring she normally wore was hanging on a hook in the bathroom. Behmlander's car was in the backyard, locked. Her ex-husband thought she'd return and initially did not report her missing.
Behmlander has never been heard from again. She was declared legally dead in 2010. Her case remains unsolved.
