Details of Disappearance

Edis was last seen at her residence in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami, Florida on April 6, 2023. She lived with her son, Eduardo Lopez-Hernandez, on Northwest 24th Avenue near Northwest 29th Street. Eduardo stated he left his mother on the porch while he went out to get food, and when he returned about forty minutes later, she was gone. She has never been heard from again.

A photo of Eduardo is posted with this case summary. In May 2026, he was arrested for organized fraud, theft from elderly, public assistance fraud and aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult. Investigators stated he stole Social Security benefits and welfare benefits from Edis; he admitted using her Social Security money and electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card to pay household expenses after disappeared, spending $18,600. He also disconnected Edis's phone line, in order to save money.

About three months prior to her disappearance, Edis had begun defecating on herself. Eduardo later admitted he didn't provide her with proper care because he was uncomfortable seeing her without clothes on. He also provided inconsistent statements to police, at one point saying he had heard Edis went to Cuba; she hadn't visited Cuba since 2004 and did not go there after her disappearance.

A neighbor's surveillance camera had a clear view of Edis and Eduardo's front porch, and the footage contradicted Eduardo's version of events: he left home much earlier than he had said, didn't return for almost ten hours, and his mother was never seen.

Foul play is suspected in Edis's case, but no one has been charged in connection with her disappearance.
