Details of Disappearance

The last confirmed sighting of Jacob was on April 2, 2025, when a property manager at his apartment complex visited his apartment to discuss renovations with his mother. Jacob lived with his mother on Howard Avenue near Sutter Avenue in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

A photo of Jacob's mother, Jacqueline Pritchett, is posted with this case summary. Jacob never attended school; Jacqueline's relatives stated she was homeschooling him. They had lived in the Sutter Avenue apartment since Jacob was two. Jacqueline never revealed the identity of her son's father.

On September 25, a caseworker for the New York Administration for Children's Services (ACS) went to the apartment to do a welfare check on Jacob, as neighbors reported they hadn't seen him in about two months and that Jacqueline seemed unstable. His mother answered the door and refused to show them her son's birth certificate, but was otherwise cooperative. Jacob was not in the apartment.

ACS returned to the apartment a few days later, and Jacqueline wouldn't let them in, so they called the police. When the police arrived, Jacqueline let them in, but Jacob wasn't there. The apartment was very clean and there was an unusually strong odor of cleaning products. There were two mattresses there, however, as well as children's toys. Jacqueline claimed the toys were hers.

When the police and the ACS asked Jacqueline where her son was, she became agitated and claimed she lived alone and had never had a child. She said she had never been with a man or had a menstrual period, then claimed she was Jesus Christ. Jacqueline was taken to Brookdale University Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and held under observation for nine days for emotional disturbance, and the police searched the apartment. A police dog detected the scent of human blood in or around the refrigerator, and also on a mattress outside the apartment near the dumpsters.

Later in October, Jacqueline was jailed for contempt of court for refusing to answer questions about Jacob. She appeared at least ten times in Brookylyn Family Court and each time invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refused to answer questions. She was released in December 2025 after her lawyers argued she shouldn't be held for exercising her constitutional rights.

Jacqueline's family stated she would not allow them to take photos of Jacob, and that he would often run away from his mother when they were outside their apartment. She kept him strapped in a stroller, even after he outgrew it, to stop him from running away. Neighbors said she sometimes left him unattended in his stroller in the apartment building lobby. She changed phone numbers frequently and didn't let her family come visit very often.

Her family believed she was struggling with mental health issues. One neighbor said Jacqueline dressed nicely and kept her hair neat when she initially moved into the building, but more recently she had appeared unkempt, with messy hair and stained, worn clothes, and she rarely took Jacob outside anymore.

No charges have been filed against Jacqueline or anyone else in her son's disappearance. She has been evicted from the Sutter Avenue apartment and was last known to be staying in a Brooklyn homeless shelter. Investigators believe Jacob may have been the victim of a homicide. His case remains unsolved.
