Details of Disappearance
Pitkin disappeared from her Red Bluff, California home with her two dogs in mid-October 2022. Her family last saw her on October 14. She told her son she was going on a trip and would be back on Monday.
Subsequent financial transactions placed her in Oregon. On October 15, she purchased a pre-paid phone card, a $300 pre-paid Visa card, gas and fast food, and also withdrew $1000 from a bank account in her name which existence her family had been unaware of. On October 16, she reserved a room at a hotel in Sutherlin, Oregon and is believed to have paid for it in cash.
She was last seen with her dogs at a Rite-Aid pharmacy in Albany, Oregon between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. on October 17. She purchased a cigarette lighter there. She has never been heard from again, and was reported missing on October 26.
On October 29, the police found her gray 2022 Toyota Camry with the California license plate number 9CAK892 locked and abandoned on a dead-end Forest Service road off Highway 20, thirty miles east of Sweet Home, Oregon. Based on the evidence, police believe it had been there since October 17. In the car were her purse, identification, passport, Social Security card, birth certificate, medication, a gun, an overnight bag containing toiletries, her dogs' leashes and two Home Depot moving boxes, one containing shoes and the other containing clothes.
Pitkin's two dogs were a black, white and brown Jack Russell Terrier named Cope, and a small yellow and white dog named Trooper. In February 2023, Trooper was found running along Highway 20 a mile from where Pitkin's car had been left. Trooper has since been adopted. Cope is still missing; a photo of it is posted with this case summary.
Pitkin worked as a realtor at the time of her disappearance. Her family stated they did not believe she would have missed her son's wedding or the upcoming birth of her grandchild. Her case remains unsolved.
