Details of Disappearance
Steele was last seen in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on August 5, 2024. She told her family she had been a victim of human trafficking back when she lived in Virginia, and also reported this to the FBI after she was able to escape the situation, but no one was prosecuted.
After she escaped, fearful her traffickers would find her and hurt her or her family, she moved frequently and changed her phone number. Just before her disappearance, she told her family she was going to Las Vegas, Nevada to an unspecified treatment center for survivors of trafficking. She seemed excited and hopeful about the treatment program.
On the day she was supposed to fly to Las Vegas, her flight was delayed and Steele was put up in a hotel. She called them from the hotel and said there was a man outside who was going to help make sure she got on the plane. She did not say who the man was or where he had come from. This was the last time her family heard from her; she has never been seen again.
Authorities were able to track Steele's phone, which traveled from Pennsylvania to Chicago, Illinois and then to Las Vegas after Steele's family last heard from her. However, the authorities have no proof that Steele herself was with that phone; it's not clear that she actually arrived in Las Vegas.
Steele is originally from New York. Her case remains unsolved and she is considered to be in danger due to her history and the circumstances of her disappearance.
