Details of Disappearance

Saavedra was last seen in Jersey City, New Jersey on April 11, 1986. He told his mother on the day of his disappearance that he was going to a Bible study. Later that day he telephoned her and said he would be spending the night at a friend's house.

He never came home. The vehicle he was driving, his father's 1985 Subaru, was later discovered abandoned in front of a neighborhood pizza parlor in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. At the time of his disappearance, he was a student at Jersey City State College. He had never inexplicably disappeared before.

Saavedra's family stated he had become interested in religion prior to his disappearance and had traveled as far away as Pennsylvania to attend conventions of different demoninations. The same day he disappeared, he sent a letter to his brother that mentioned "a new realization with God." His family described Saavedra as "sometimes too gullible" and speculated he had gotten involved with a cult and this led to his disappearance.

His case remains unsolved.
