Middaugh disappeared from Las Vegas, Nevada on June 17, 2005. Several days later, his car was found stuck in the sand in the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. In October 2006, Middaugh's remains were found about three miles from where his car had been located. His death remains under investigation.
