Details of Disappearance

Mitchell was last seen in Snohomish, Washington on February 5, 1983. He had been hanging out with some other teenagers and drank at least half of a fifth of 105-proof vodka. At about 5:00 p.m., Mitchell suddenly jumped off the railroad trestle into the Snohomish River and swam towards the Maple Street boat launch.

Witnesses several blocks away saw Mitchell swimming towards shore before he disappeared in the water. He was last seen submerged just under the water, about ten feet from shore.

Mitchell is described as a strong swimmer and a daredevil. He had dropped out of school about two years before his disappearance and worked part time as a driver at his father's veterinary hospital. He is presumed drowned, but his body was never recovered.
