Details of Disappearance

McKinley was last seen in Vacaville, California on September 16, 1979. She left home, intending to go to Pena Adobe Park and read a book there. She never returned and has never been heard from again. Her husband called the police hours later.

On October 2, her green 1979 Volkswagen Dasher with the California license plate number 584XLH was found abandoned on the side of the road in Lake Berryessa, California. It had a broken window, but there was no obvious evidence of foul play. The police returned it to her family without checking it for fingerprints. McKinley's loved ones said she had no logical reason to drive to that location.

McKinley left behind two daughters. She was a very involved mother, and she had just gotten her GED certificate and planned to get a job as a hairstylist. She had taken an overdose a month before her disappearance but later called it a mistake, and her family doesn't think she was suicidal.

She is missing under unclear circumstances, but her loved ones do not believe she left of her own accord.
