Details of Disappearance

Emily disappeared with her young son, Gabriel Almiron, from Orem, Utah on September 8, 2015. They were riding in a red 2009 Toyota Prius with the Utah license plate number X198BJ; a photo of it is posted below this case summary. Her ex-husband reported her missing after she didn't show up for a child custody exchange.

Emily's boyfriend, Christopher Richard Poulson, said they broke up after he found drug paraphernalia in their apartment, and she left with her son, possibly moving to California. However, police could find no evidence that she was in California or anywhere else in the country. Emily's Prius was found abandoned in a parking lot in St. George, Utah, filled with bags of her belongings and Gabriel's car seat. The keys were inside it also.

Authorities never believed Emily took Gabriel and left of her own accord. She had paid $13,000 in tuition to the Utah College of Massage Therapy and was about to graduate before she disappeared, and her credit cards, bank account and cellular phone have not been used since September 8.

In October 2017, Poulson was charged with aggravated murder in Emily and Gabriel's disappearances. A photo of Poulson is posted below this case summary. Investigators think he killed them, wrapped their bodies and sheets and dumped them in a remote part of Utah.

A cadaver dog detected the scent of human remains in the trunk of Poulson's silver 2002 Ford Mustang, which he sold for below its worth a few days after Emily and Gabriel disappeared. He is known to have purchased a shovel, heavy work gloves and sheets the day after they disappeared, and his roommate said a hammer disappeared from the apartment around that time. The only fingerprints found on the bags in Emily's car were Poulson's.

When police confronted him with their evidence in late August 2017, he moved to Hawaii. He was arrested there and extradited back to Utah to face the murder charges. The prosecution has not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.

Investigators are searching for Emily and Gabriel's bodies. Foul play is suspected in their cases due to the circumstances involved.
