Details of Disappearance

Elizabeth disappeared with her baby sister, Jasmin Maria Ramos, and their mother, Marina Ramos, from Bakersfield, California on August 1, 1989.

Marina had been serving a sentence in jail for shoplifting and her cousin was taking care of her children. A photo of Marina is posted with this case summary. After she was released from jail, she went to her cousin's and picked up her daughters. They were last seen getting into a black SUV driven by a Hispanic man named Fernando who was between 30 and 40 years old in 1989, and wore black glasses. Marina said they were going to Ontario, California. None of them ever returned.

In December 1989, Marina's nude body was found off Highway 93 in Dolan Springs, Arizona. She had been murdered and had been dead for only a matter of hours. There was no sign of Elizabeth or Jasmin, and Marina's remains were not identified until December 2022. Only after her body was identified did the authorities realize her children were missing. Based on the evidence at the murder scene, authorities think two people of differing heights were involved in Marina's death: one between 5'4 and 5'8 tall, and the other between 5'10 and 6'2.

Both girls' cases remain unsolved. Investigators believe Marina may have left them with someone prior to her murder, and that they could have been raised by that person. She may have traveled between Las Vegas, Nevada and the California cities of Bakersfield, Los Angeles and Ontario prior to her death.
